Excerpt: Kill the Gods

This is a little sneak peak excerpt from the book that (I hope) will be published (eventually). It's about two characters who plan to kill the Gods (as depicted in the title). It's written in the point of view of the main character, Cyra. Enjoy!

The two days it took to travel to Res’s mansion were long and gruelling. The only thoughts that fuelled me were that of my best friend- my soulmate- dying. The Gods had done this. The Gods had split us apart, and now they planned to keep us apart for the rest of eternity.

No. I wouldn’t have it. I would not simply accept his death like this, even if it was the Gods’ will.

I had simply taken a horse, packed it with a few days supplies, and took off. I used one of the secret portals to travel between the realms and it had been all too easy to reach Kzar without being detected.

The horse galloped down the dirt road towards Res’s mansion which had now become fully in view. There was no sun down here. No plants except for the occasional roots poking out of the stone covered floor and ceiling. It was a mansion dug out of the ground. Res’s own personal prison. But still, it was a beautiful house, much larger than any other in Kzar. Golden spears reached for the ceiling of the underground cave, almost as if they longed to touch the sky. Glass windows made up the walls of the mansion, exposing every detail of what was inside.

Through those walls, I could see Res sitting by the window in his living room, staring out at me in confusion. He watched as I pulled my horse to a stop in front of the stone steps leading to the door, beaming. I had to gesture for him to come outside before he rose from his chair slowly, still in disbelief.

Two seconds later he disappeared and the door in front of me swung open. He was already grinning. “You’re in?” “Always.”

He sputtered out a laugh and stepped to the side, a silent invitation to come in. I did, and we walked into the house, side by side.

There you go! I know that this excerpt is a little on the shorter side, but I wanted to share without going into too much depth (because the plot is difficult to explain in only a few hundred words). You'll probably see more of this story in later posts too, so if you want more, just be patient!
